Wasps live in groups (or "colonies") which contain a queen and workers. Because they enjoy foods high in protein and sugar they will move around humans who are good sources of these.

They often have their nests close to where people live and are a nuisance because of their painful stings.

Fast movement irritates and disturbs wasps and can cause them to sting. Killing single wasps will not be effective- the entire wasp must be destroyed. This must be done by a professional since it a hazardous activity. Avoid moving or spraying water on wasps' nests.

To prevent wasps from returning, keep rubbish tightly covered and always prevent water from gathering in pools (for example from leaking taps or air conditioner pipes). Such water sources will invariably attract wasps.
